Federal Prison Camp Inmate Search

Use an official BOP search to check a person’s current federal custody record. Use InmateReleases.org for facility-linked historical inmate and release records.

Current federal custody

Search the official BOP Inmate Locator

Search by name or BOP register number. The locator is the best starting point for current federal custody and projected release information.

Historical records

Search InmateReleases.org

Browse historical federal inmate and release records. A historical association does not prove that a person is currently housed at that facility.

What you need to search

BOP register number

The most precise identifier. It usually appears in a format such as 12345-678.

Full legal name

Use the person’s first, middle and last name when known. Try spelling variations if a name search does not match.

Age, race or sex

These fields can help distinguish people with similar names, but should not replace verification by register number.

Important: A release date may be projected and can change. A historical facility record is not a live institutional roster. Confirm current custody through BOP.
